The benefits of research to you
Research is essential for informing the policies, strategies, and actions of all organisations. The benefits of correctly conducted research significantly outweigh its costs, and ensures that development activities are more likely to achieve their objectives.

Our services can meet your needs
We have designed our services to assist clients at their point of need. It might well be that there are many aspects of the research that you can achieve less expensively in-house. Why pay for data entry when you might have staff who are capable of doing this? It might be that your professional staff are best equipped to obtain information from key people, but what they need is help in formulating an interview schedule. We can either undertake a research project from inception to completion, or assist you with specific stages or tasks in the research. We can help you design the research project as a whole, or design a questionnaire. We can advise you on overall strategy or methodology, or provide an evaluation of research that has been carried out by others. We can tailor our provision to meet your needs, and deliver any of the services listed on the left either on their own or in any combination.

Our experience can benefit you
Research has two unfortunate characteristics. Firstly, many people believe that they can conduct effective research without thorough training or relevant experience. This makes it very difficult for clients to make decisions about who should undertake research, and what they should be achieving. In fact there are relatively few trained researchers around who can provide the research services that are required by organisations. Just ask yourself, how many research reports have you commissioned that are just sitting on the shelves gathering dust? A characteristic of good research is that it leads to a clear outcome that informs policy and strategy. Secondly, despite the case that can be made for undertaking research, it is always difficult to obtain sufficient resources to answer all the questions that are asked. That is why it is important to ensure that the resources you do have are used to the best effect.

Our aim is to assist clients to undertake cost-effective research. We believe that our clients are best served by obtaining valid data that is interpreted objectively. To achieve this, we are proponents of applying fundamental research principles. This improves the design of the research methodology, the collection of information, the analysis of the information, the interpretation of results, the presentation of those results, and the evaluation of the research.

We are particularly well-equipped to apply sound research principles. Both Alan Leigh and Anne-Marie Barron have doctorates from long-established British universities. They have undertaken research in public, commercial, and academic environments. We  recognise that we have to provide a service with limited resources. We know what research can achieve, and just as importantly, what it can’t achieve. We emphasise the importance of asking the right questions, rather than fishing for the right answer!
